SOCIAL ACCESSIBILITY OF HIGHER TECHNICAL EDUCATION IN RUSSIA AT THE BEGINNING OF THE XX CENTURY
Keywords:
history of education, the Russian Empire at the beginning of the XX century, accessibility of higher education, social composition of universitiesAbstract
The proposed article reveals the issue of accessibility of higher education for various population groups in the Russian Empire at the beginning of the 20th century by analyzing the social composition of students from a number of technical universities representing various regions of the country. The materials from the published reports on the institutions under consideration revealed some established trend: the democratization of the social composition of students of technical universities least influenced by European educational traditions (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tomsk), and a more conservative social composition of students in regions with significant European influence (Warsaw, Riga, Kiev).
